Insulating concrete form (ICF) construction represents a modern innovation, and a significant departure from the traditional built environment; however, it is based on time-tested building techniques. And at its core is the most proven building material on earth: reinforced concrete.
Inspired by the humble cinder-block, interlocking ICF "blocks" are stacked in staggered rows to form a wall system composed of two thick panels of polystyrene foam separated by a network of polypropylene webs. Horizontal and vertical rebars are installed during construction according to building codes and engineering specs. Concrete is then poured into the wall cavities, curing to form one of the most solid, soundproof, waterproof and insulated walls possible.
