Hambro® Suspended Concrete Floors
Stack-It Wall Systems is one of Calgary's most experienced installers of the Hambro® D500™ suspended slab concrete floor and roof system. The Hambro® composite floor joist system is an innovative solution to the problem of elevated concrete floor construction. Combining Hambro's patented steel joist system with poured concrete, the system consists of hybrid concrete/steel T-beams running in one direction and an integrated continuous slab in the other.
Hambro® is the ideal suspended slab system for concrete floors that do not form a part of the building's thermal envelope. It is also the ideal system to use when you wish to install radiant in-floor heating, or when very complex ducting or electrical systems are required between the suspended slab and the ceilings below.

Technical Description (Refer to Diagram)
The bottom chord acts as a tension member during the concrete pour and throughout the service life of the floor. The steel webs connecting top and bottom chords together form a triangular system of bent rods that resist vertical shear in a conventional truss manner.
The patented thirteen-gauge top chord acts as a compression member during installation. During the compositing/concreting stage, the top chord is embedded in concrete and serves as a continuous shear connector. It also functions as a high chair, developing negative moment capacity in the concrete slab, which now behaves as a continuous one-way reinforced slab. The concrete slab is reinforced with heavy-gauge welded steel mesh.
